He settled in the artists’ quarter of Montmartre, soon rivaled by Montparnasse, and established a network of contacts and friendships with visual artists, literary figures, and musicians. Museums, art exhibitions, concerts, operas, theater plays, and discussions about art in cafés and salons characterized the vibrant cultural life in which Braque immersed himself. They appreciated the works of Braque and passionately represented Cubism. The Germans Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler and Wilhelm Uhde founded their galleries for modern art in Paris. The city was a international center of art and attracted artists from all over the world. At the age of eighteen, Braque moved from Le Havre to Paris.
